Communications Committee Meeting at 8:00 Sunday

It's now after the meeting. As usual, we got little in the way of answers from the committee. Most questions were met with, "I don't know," or "None of us are on that committee. You need to ask them," or a new and novel approach, a blank stare accompanied by, "Thank you for the question. Next question?" I went in hoping for at least some answers, but the fact that we didn't get answers doesn't mean the meeting was a waste of time.

Indeed, this was a very important meeting. There were well over 200 people in attendance, and Mark Sharpe had the opportunity to ask questions and to speak. For many, this was the first time they'd had an opportunity to see Mark and hear from him. Leaving the room and walking down the hallway afterwards, I heard snippets of conversations along the way, and people were saying things like, "I'm glad we got to hear Mark Sharpe. I think he's telling the truth." Or "I didn't know who Mark Sharpe was, but after hearing what he said, I really do think we've got problems." Or "I really do think God sent Mark Sharpe to Bellevue at this time."

This is what was accomplished this morning! People are one by one pulling their heads out of the sand and considering that this may be a lot more than just a small group of disgruntled members who don't like the music or who are just upset because Steve Gaines isn't Adrian Rogers.

Sister Pam Gremillion is writing a transcript of the meeting which she is publishing in the comments of this thread.

1. Did you attend the December 3rd meeting?

2. What were your impressions?

cjesusnme,

Conerning Brother Steve:
I am not sure that the inward man is any diffrent today than ten to twelve years ago. It is just more readily apparant in the outward man today. Certainly, the words from years gone past do not agree with the actions of today, but the actions of yesteryear were lacking the consuming power of today.

I hope that those who are leaving or contemplating leaving will consult with scripture and pray over this before making that decision. I'm not suggesting you haven't...it's just that church membership is a serious issue.

allofgrace,

I agree and hope that all are careful in their decision. I certainly understand that it is difficult to remain at this time, but it is also critical to remain if that is what God would have you do. Personally, the temptation is certainly present to move on in hopes of ending the pain. The reality for myself is that watching the suffering from afar would not end my heart ache.

Tim,
That's so true...I've learned the hard way that trying to escape difficult circumstances can often result in winding up in the same type circumstances...just some place else. God calls us to some hard places and situations sometimes...but He is faithful.

aog,

You have mail.

Tim,

You are very right about Steve T. It just so happens he was the one who "counseled" with us when we joined I think 14 years or so ago. He managed to bring up a relative of ours and made disparaging remarks about this relative. This person definitely has issues but I did not think it was appropriate to bring it up while we were discussing our salvation experiences and joining. If relying on any man made a difference to me, I would have walked out and skipped the whole thing. However I had watched Bellevue on tv for years and really had grown up with Dr. Rogers and I loved him so we joined anyway. I have talked to several people about their experiences when joining - actually other people have brought their experiences up to me - and others had concerns about what was said/done when they joined. Obviously Steve Tucker was not with all of us when we joined so it seems like there might have been another problem as well.

hisservant,

We were under the impression you were done here - not trying to be rude just responding to what you said yesterday or the day before. I'm Bellevue whether you like it or not. I love my new church but that certainly doesn't diminish my concern for the church where I spent the better part of my life! Keep on brother. You are continually showing your true colors. I know you will say I'm showing mine as well. That is fine. These other people on here know my heart. Hopefully the ones lurking have seen my heart as well.

Were you at last week's meeting (November 26th), and were you wearing a white pullover sweater that morning? You won't be revealing your name because I didn't know the man's name. Just curious.

cjesusnme,

It is similar to marriage isn't it. God has commanded that we love them, even when we don't like them. :)

Please reread Proverbs12:22 post Dec.5,8:42 A.M.
What do you believe of the Pastors apologies? True of False....
Could it be the numbers growing of concerned BBC members meeting with the CC committee brought on this apology???
I agree with Tim that watching from afar will not end my heartache. We love Bellevue Baptist Church!!!!!
