- This forum was created to provide a place where those who are seriously concerned about the issues facing Bellevue Baptist Church and the SBC can come to comment and exchange ideas. Go ahead and vote all the trouble makers out. Steve can write a book on how he had to save Bellevue from those who want truth and accountability. I bet it would be a big seller. Lots of pastors would love to read a book on how to handle uppity church members wanting openness and accountability.
We need to be very careful not to let the trolls deter us from our goal. INTEGRITY INTEGRITY INTEGRITY. Without Integrity we have nothing worth having.
If God does not instill Integrity at BBC I will be more than happy to follow God wherever He wants my membership, and I WILL shake off the dust on my feet that used to be BBC.
Please do not let some on here cause you to say something you will regret. I know how hard this is because I have rewritten this 3 times already.
God is still in control and He will not be mocked!

I agree with you, the vote to reconfirm SG will probably happen. I would guess the vote will probably be 4,000-5000- for and 300-500 against.
then what? That small minority will look like a militant minority. You will probably see a group from the majority rise up to call for the disenters removal of membership. this could be good for the staff, because they werent the ones to bring it up. they could simply restate we are a congregational people and this is what the majority of the congregation wanted. It is very difficult to overthrow a baptist church in todays culture.

I call on someone, anyone, who is defending the pastor and the BBC leadership to present a detail biblical explanation of your point of view. Please explain it so we know where we are going wrong. Please explain why the pastor is not accountable to the deacons or the church. Please explain why the other leaders are not accountable to the church members. Please explain why we are violating Scripture by asking questions and seeking accountability. Please build the biblical case that proves unity should trump truth.
I want chapter and verse. I want analysis. Persuade me with a biblical argument that what we are doing is wrong. Don't just throw out Hebrews 13:17, that won't cut it. Give me something to go on and I might change my view.
A poster to the forum asked me those questions and I cannot answer him. So you would really be helpig many of us out if you can answer me. I anxiously await your explanation. If you can do it we might actually get somewhere. I'll admit I don't think anyone, including Brother Steve, can do it.

The timing of your suggestion would be ill advised. The D.A. & DCS are still busy. Theirs is a minimum 60 day inquiry... not 30. It might result in quite a shock if such a vote happens and then someone is charged by the D.A... jmo.

Response: I believe you are correct. BBC is changing and will never return to what it was two years ago (good or bad, I am not saying which).
BBC will go on, they have the funds, building and leadership. It will be under the leadership of SG.
The other 300 or so will go to GBC or start their own church. Out of that 300 their will eventually only be about 50 that will stay and fight it out (if their membership is not removed). IDC will discover that many (300) will sign up at first, but then it will become like the football game between New Orleans and Chicago.
The people will get tired of the fight and being in the gross minority. Most of these folks have a life to live, and will grow tired of fighting about church.

I want our church back. No I'm not that tired of you, but the actions that your group is taking are very extreme and have been. I know you are upset but you are in the minority. If I see I am in the minority in this disagreement I will find another church or get over it. We are just very tired of the same old claims and bitterness towards SG.
I did not mean to imply that we are to simply wait for God to do something. I meant that we should keep doing what we believe God is telling us to do UNTIL God moves.

Why don't we just split BBC? We can liquidate all of the churches assets and then divide up the cash between the two. We can divide the amount by the number of people who go with either new church. We can set stipulations that neither church can be called BBC. We can then allow SG supporters to have their church, and those who want to run their own church can start their own church. I really don't see much on this blog that even remotely resembles a desire to want to "save bellevue." I see a lot of people who would like their own BBC or maybe a BBC of the past.

What you should do is tell the truth .The "we" in your statement indicated that you are part of the leadership,so be honest.Are you part of the leadership ,or are you pretending?

I have been posting my answer to that question for some time in a long list. The reason that all of this has come this far is truth. Mark Sharpe asked for a few to deal with the "dream" issue. Then the deacon body. When a deacon is denied a fair hearing before his brother deacons--then everyone is left wondering what the truth really is. What to do? Restore trust with regard to the issues listed. I think if you speak with IDC they will feel much the same way.
I've been scanning the comments and someone has suggested voting the IDC people out. You might succeed with that vote, but you've waited a few weeks too late to hold it.
From what I've read on the blog a valid legal demand was made and then denied by Mr. Coombs. Even if you vote the men and women out who made that demand, it will have little to no legal effect. Since their valid demand precedes any removal action, their information request could still be legally enforced even if they no longer belong to Bellevue. A judge might even set aside the vote to remove them from the church role. I don't think any Memphis judges would appreciate Mr. Coombs' indifference to the laws of Tennessee.

Opinion: The disenters would not last that long, it will boil down to 25-50 people that would stay and fight. Most folks dont want to face their families at special events, and be known as the ones who took their church to court.
Also, those folks dont want to have to face their families and explain how and why they got removed from the church roles. Their will always be those family members that would agree with the church.

Stop attackiong each other personally - if you used 10% less time on this blog and 10% more time in prayer for God's guidance at BBC, do you think we could come together as a congregation and brother/sister in Christ. Don't stay up too late - it will be an important day tomorrow at BBC and we need to be prepared. Stop fighting against each other. Members of IDC, the message is out there; don't lose your witness by griping with others that are not like-minded. People who are not members of IDC and who do not see IDC's point of view, please come to the meeting with an open mind. Don't be disruptive - I haven't been disruptive in worship services even though I don't agree with some things coming from the pulpit and I think the same level of courtesy should be followed at the IDC meeting. If you're going to attend with the mind set of being diruptive, just stay away. I really believe you would ask and expect the same of me.

I am right on my point and they would have to turn over the list. I don't think it is a close call.
I will point out to everyone that seeking an injunction is very different than filing a law suit. A court order would merely instruct Bellevue to comply with the laws of Tennessee. No one would be turning anything over to the courts for adjudication. However, why should any legal action of any kind be needed? The statute is crystal clear.

I have heard that there are IDC followers and readers of this blog from all over this country and 7 other countries as well. The issue of integrity in the Christian community is a cause worth fighting for if you are a Bible believing Christian. I am grateful for the teachings of Dr Adrian Rogers. He taught us not to follow a man, even him. To verify everything with the Holy Light of God's Word. To stand for Truth instead of Unity. To love the Lord our God with all our heart and all our soul. This is what we are fighting for. We are not fighting AGAINST Steve Gaines, we are fighting FOR integrity because it DOES count in the Kingdom of God.

I don't know how long you've been at Bellevue, but there are people who are hurting who feel that after burying a pastor they have watched the death of their church just months later.

1. I can't remember the names off the top of my head.
2. I'm not on the Board so it's not my place to post their names without asking them first.
3. With all the requests for proof and the request for facts instead of speculation, go ask IDC yourself.
In regard to PW, I feel it was a mistake from the beginning to post his name (and I admit I posted the son's name once and promptly deleted the post when NASS brought it to my attention that I was wrong in doing so. Because of the PW mistake, it's not right to post Board members names without their permission. If they will email me and give me permission to post their names, I will, but until then, you will have to send your request to the IDC email.
If there are Board members posting tonight, it's up to them to reveal themselves.

Is it not common practice for churches to produce member directories with not only your address and phone number, but (gasp) your pictures?

Our BFC class (along with many others) has our own directory with our pictures along with our families pictures and all of our personal information. I think the member list they requested was just the generic mailing list, nothing personal like the BFC class directories.

In anybody here an expert in law? Can somebody record a private conversation between 2 or 3 people in a private office and make it public without all 3 people knowing that a recording is being made?
If not, what are some of the consequences legally that these people could face?

Since you seem to think so highly of steve and have such confidence in him, and he DID seem to feel that PW was not a threat to our children in the church, perhaps it would be a good idea to show SG just how much you have confidence in his decisions by allowing PW to babysit your children.
And unless you are willing to do that, I'm thinking it's not a good idea to brag about how you are going to 'love on him'...
Actually, the thought of ' loving' on a pedophile hider is quite sickening to me, but, that's just me. Maybe it doesn't make you sick.

Tenn. law states that ONE of you must know that the recording is taking place. That would mean, Stephen, that if you and I were having a conversation and I recorded it, I would know that I am recording it, so therefore, it's ok.
How do I know this? In a former life ( before kids) I did legal work..not as a lawyer, but I took many many recorded statements.
Therefore, your daddy has problems, BIG problems..go ask him, he'll know what I mean.

I believe that is wrong. Do you have the statute numbers or whatever they are called available? Because that doesn't make sense...that would mean that whenever anybody is being recorded it's fine because of course at least one person knows about it. - does what I'm saying make sense?

No, The statute is allowed if one knows about it. The law prevents recording a conversation where none of the parties know it is being recorded.
At least that is my understanding.
I think that is why they are allowed to let a person wear a wire.

I had recorded telephone conversations in my divorce case to use as evidence in a court of law..never had to use them...but they were completely legal...without telling the other party they were being recorded.

It sounds to me like someone is scared about something they said becoming public. Otherwise, why worry about the recording laws.
Someone earlier was saying IDC would be violating the Bible if they go to court to get the member list, something they are legally entitled to possess. Now Ace is trying to find out the legal consequences of a perfectly legal act. I think he ought to worry more about the consequences of an illegal one.
