It's Not About the Music!

This may sound familiar, but contrary to the claims of some critics, that isn't what this is about.

Here we read about a malady that seems to be affecting more and more pastors today, the "Man of God" Syndrome.

Channel 5's latest.

Sometimes you've just gotta laugh!

Democrats can call the President a racist....it doesnt matter if the President is a racist or not. It's the seriousness of the charge. Once the accusation is made the President has to prove that he is not a racist.

I can accuse the Pastor of smoking pot...some people will believe me. Then the Pastor has to prove that does not smoke pot.

Same goes with the salary advances...if there were good solid evidence that would bother me. If it's Mark Sharpe's word alone, my mind is not changed.

I am proud of the posters on this blog for ignoring your post trolling for talking points. What "things" were you expecting? You start with a rumour "Wasn't there some kind of..." and then you try to create some chatter that will escalate into another evil plot by Pastor Gaines and his minions "Was there any general discussion about "things"...pitiful.

Your like the guy at the game that's trying to start the wave and everyone's just looking at him.

I agree with Mike's post which is for the forum to adhere to the purpose set by the administrator. Exactly what I requested in my first post to this site that was immediately deleted by Mr/Mrs New BBC.

Karen,

So, in your opinion, how many mistakes will you accept from Steve before it hits your last straw?

It depends on the level of the mistakes and the severity. That's too much of a complicated question to answer without more details and without getting really specific. I will say that he is nowhere close to "hitting my last straw," though.
I'm sorry to hear about your ex-husband and the abuse he put you through.

Steve Gaines kept what Paul Williams told him to himself because in Steve's opinion it was "under the blood".
Okay, forgive me, but where did this quote originate from? Everybody is saying that Gaines said it was "under the blood" - when did he say that and to who? Thanks, I'm really curious.
He should have not kept this issue to himself regardless of how he thought he should handle it.

True, but it should be noted that Gaines already admitted he should have acted on this issue way sooner than he did and he apologized.

He kept it to himself because I feel he wanted to be spared another debacle at BBC - after all the apologizing he'd been doing
At the point of the so-called "confession," Steve never issued an apology about anything so I don't think that's a valid excuse.

Permission from whom? How much notice do you have to give them? Do they give you a press pass or something to indicate that you're "officially approved"? If they don't, and 100 people were to pull out camcorders (not suggesting people do this, just posing a hypothetical question), what do you think they'd do? Do you think the incident with Jim Haywood just might have prompted this "new" rule? After all, the only "rule" they announced before the SCT was "no flash photography."

Everyone,

Piglet,

I just wanted to mention that the three issues I re-framed as pro-pew/pro-pulpit were for the following reasons:

Accountability ("to no one" or to someone)

Pay ($400,000 or other amount)

Authority ("not a deacon any more" or still is a deacon)

All three of these, Accountability, Pay, and Authority, are matters for an individual church body to seek scripture for and implement policy to the best of their ability to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit.

I just looked over 25+'s "The list" click to see it again

Guess what? Every issue on there is a matter of pro-pew vs. pro-pulpit.

The nice thing about pro-pew/pro-pulpit issues is this: when representatives of both sides sit down at a table (or online), these can all be negotiated. It might take 6 months or more, but it will be an incredible growth opportunity for any church body that puts politics aside and really strives to do this seeking truth in love and in peace.

Good work 25+!

I saw it now, thanks. Now the question is, where did they hear it from? I have a feeling that we may have been quoting SG as saying that for the past month or so while he may have never said it in the first place...hmm...

Ace,

You may be right; but when I read that post I remembered it as being the first one that I, personally, had read that had that phrase in it.

That poster did at the time seem to be putting more comments out about the incident than we had heard about elsewhere.

I guess you just need to find out who "sackcloth&ashes" is and ask them directly.

Why didn't that person report it to the police?

Good morning live from BBC,

As a seasoned news anchor and photojournalist, I want to advise all Bellevue members this whole business of not being able to take pictures or video inside your own church is preposterous. I wouldn’t give an Amen for this idea in a million Sundays.

I thought you Baptist thought the church were the people and God owned the church. Is Jim Barnwell and Ace attached to each other? It seems like they make the communication rules around your church. What is the pastor’s take on this.

Jim Barnwell can't make the rules up for your church. I would suggest Sunday that anyone desiring to take a picture, video, or recording to do so. No court of law is going to allow members of a church to be prohibited from taking pictures. I could see it now, “Hundreds of members being arrested at BBC for taking pictures”.

Even I have pictures of myself when I was just a wee little lad on the church grounds and inside the church growing up.

Do the proceeds of the sale of videos go to Jim Barnwell or the people producing these tapes? That might be my next investigative report.

Until next time, remember to always keep a fresh set of batteries in your digital camera and recorder. Live from somewhere inside BBC (not British Broadcasting Company)

Re: Recording at BBC.....this all flabergasts me as the person sitting in front of me at the SCT recorded WITH A VIDEO RECORDER the entire first half of the tree, through the Wise Men coming in. I know this because she was blocking my view! The Usher was standing within 4 feet of her and never said a word. I also have recorded many activities within Bellevue and never had anyone say anything to me. Has there been a change in policy? Or a change in the enforcement of the policy? Or just an enforcement on certain people?

Good morning again Bellevue,

A question came to mind after reading libertyinchrist that needs to be asked by everyone at Bellevue. Has Jim Barnwell or Ace ever asked our permission to film our faces as we sit in the service? This film is broadcast all over Memphis and now it appears they are selling tapes with our faces shown. Since we the members own this private property called Bellevue, how can Jim Barnwell or Ace take our pictures and sell DVD's without our permission? I think we have more of a leagal cause of action having our pictures sold without permision than Jim Barnwell has against any member taking a picture and not selling it.

Good Morning all! Hope everyone is refreshed from a wonderful sleep. I got my LWF devotional today via email (lwf.org to request) and got to thinking about amy favorite chapter of scripture: Hebrews 11! Boy if we had this kind of faith! Enjoy and be blessed!

Hebrews 11

1 The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see.
2 The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.
3 By faith, we see the world called into existence by God's word, what we see created by what we don't see.
4 By an act of faith, Abel brought a better sacrifice to God than Cain. It was what he believed, not what he brought, that made the difference. That's what God noticed and approved as righteous. After all these centuries, that belief continues to catch our notice.
5 By an act of faith, Enoch skipped death completely. "They looked all over and couldn't find him because God had taken him." We know on the basis of reliable testimony that before he was taken "he pleased God."
6 It's impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him.
7 By faith, Noah built a ship in the middle of dry land. He was warned about something he couldn't see, and acted on what he was told. The result? His family was saved. His act of faith drew a sharp line between the evil of the unbelieving world and the rightness of the believing world. As a result, Noah became intimate with God.
8 By an act of faith, Abraham said yes to God's call to travel to an unknown place that would become his home. When he left he had no idea where he was going.
9 By an act of faith he lived in the country promised him, lived as a stranger camping in tents. Isaac and Jacob did the same, living under the same promise.
10 Abraham did it by keeping his eye on an unseen city with real, eternal foundations - the City designed and built by God.
11 By faith, barren Sarah was able to become pregnant, old woman as she was at the time, because she believed the One who made a promise would do what he said.
12 That's how it happened that from one man's dead and shriveled loins there are now people numbering into the millions.
13 Each one of these people of faith died not yet having in hand what was promised, but still believing. How did they do it? They saw it way off in the distance, waved their greeting, and accepted the fact that they were transients in this world.
14 People who live this way make it plain that they are looking for their true home.
15 If they were homesick for the old country, they could have gone back any time they wanted.
16 But they were after a far better country than that - heaven country. You can see why God is so proud of them, and has a City waiting for them.
17 By faith, Abraham, at the time of testing, offered Isaac back to God. Acting in faith, he was as ready to return the promised son, his only son, as he had been to receive him
18 and this after he had already been told, "Your descendants shall come from Isaac."
19 Abraham figured that if God wanted to, he could raise the dead. In a sense, that's what happened when he received Isaac back, alive from off the altar.
20 By an act of faith, Isaac reached into the future as he blessed Jacob and Esau.
21 By an act of faith, Jacob on his deathbed blessed each of Joseph's sons in turn, blessing them with God's blessing, not his own - as he bowed worshipfully upon his staff.
22 By an act of faith, Joseph, while dying, prophesied the exodus of Israel, and made arrangements for his own burial.
23 By an act of faith, Moses' parents hid him away for three months after his birth. They saw the child's beauty, and they braved the king's decree.
24 By faith, Moses, when grown, refused the privileges of the Egyptian royal house.
25 He chose a hard life with God's people rather than an opportunistic soft life of sin with the oppressors.
26 He valued suffering in the Messiah's camp far greater than Egyptian wealth because he was looking ahead, anticipating the payoff.
27 By an act of faith, he turned his heel on Egypt, indifferent to the king's blind rage. He had his eye on the One no eye can see, and kept right on going.
28 By an act of faith, he kept the Passover Feast and sprinkled Passover blood on each house so that the destroyer of the firstborn wouldn't touch them.
29 By an act of faith, Israel walked through the Red Sea on dry ground. The Egyptians tried it and drowned.
30 By faith, the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho for seven days, and the walls fell flat.
31 By an act of faith, Rahab, the Jericho harlot, welcomed the spies and escaped the destruction that came on those who refused to trust God.
32 I could go on and on, but I've run out of time. There are so many more - Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, the prophets. . . .
33 Through acts of faith, they toppled kingdoms, made justice work, took the promises for themselves. They were protected from lions,
34 fires, and sword thrusts, turned disadvantage to advantage, won battles, routed alien armies. 35 Women received their loved ones back from the dead. There were those who, under torture, refused to give in and go free, preferring something better: resurrection.
36 Others braved abuse and whips, and, yes, chains and dungeons.
37 We have stories of those who were stoned, sawed in two, murdered in cold blood; stories of vagrants wandering the earth in animal skins, homeless, friendless, powerless -
38 the world didn't deserve them! - making their way as best they could on the cruel edges of the world.
39 Not one of these people, even though their lives of faith were exemplary, got their hands on what was promised.
40 God had a better plan for us: that their faith and our faith would come together to make one completed whole, their lives of faith not complete apart from ours.

From the BBC website:
Please refrain from photography, audio, and video recording
during Worship Services without permission.

This statement does NOT say you are PROHIBITED from photography, audio, and video recording. The definitive word is REFRAIN.
Merriam-Webster definition of REFRAIN: to keep oneself from doing, feeling, or indulging in something and especially from following a passing impulse.

It's been policy for a while that you're supposed to have permission from the media office before taking pictures on church property. I used to have to make a request to Larry Thompson's office. It's a security issue, not copyright, and I don't know why Jim was told that.

As to why it was enforced with Mr. Haywood, that should be obvious. He was not a parent or friend taking pictures of a relative being baptized or singing a solo. His purpose was to capture video of the congregation so that he could belittle them and hold them up to public ridicule on his website for all the world to see.

Report from the Personnel Committee
Bellevue Baptist Church
January 12, 2007

This is a report from the Personnel Committee of Bellevue Baptist Church. The committee members are: Aubrey Earnhart, Perrin Jones, Wayne VanderSteeg, and Bryan Miller.

Copied this from bellevue.org. I knew something about this bothered me: What do these 4 men know about investigating abuse? Bryan Miller is an educator and should know some, but he's proven to me to be ineffective, Wayne VanderSteeg is a business man and I don't know about the other 2, but they don't have LCSW or PhD after their names.

I'm just wondering if someone else at Bellevue with better credentials and the know how to investigate an abuse case wouldn't have been a better choice.

The Message is not the Bible. Read this short explanation:

http://www.bible-researcher.com/themessage.html

or

Do not trust the message. It is a very poor paraphrase that misleads. There are many other explanations of the problems with The Message. A quick google search will reveal much.
