Lynn says, "Its not a seance....wearing a hood like that serves for street cred. Just look at a bunch of mainstream rap videos. You'll see a lot of that in those as well....when your not seeing half naked women gyrating and random acts of violence."

Reply: Hi Lynn...while I most certainly appreciate your response, I would invite you to go back and study church history and pay particular attention to the era defined as mysticism. You will see where all of this is coming from, even the rappers in today's trend. It is all marketing strategy and is evil...any way you want to look at it. The hoods, the candles, etc. goes back to the desert fathers. The monks of that period, etc. Also...go back to yesterday's post where I posted the link to the DVD, Catholicism, Past and Present.

Rod is right...it definitely has the seance feel to it. It is frightening and sick. Please be aware of this Lynn. It is people your age they try to pull into this stuff...

I so admire you for taking a stance for Truth.

NBBCOP,

Aha! But there is a "slight"
difference. Steve is usurping what is meant for God, and applying it to himself! God wants obedience. To disobey God, His Word, Thus says the LORD, is as witchcraft and idolity.

Saul disobeyed GOD, not man.

Is Steve is putting himself in the place of God and demaning obedience to him?

There is authority, and submission to that authority, but first of all it is NOT demanded, is it. the one who desires to be first puts himself last and the servant of all, don't they. The are above reproach are they not?

"If you don't like the music, get over it" is not what God meant, I don;'t think, when He says that we are ALL TO SUBMIT ONE TO ANOTHER.

Not, to go back into the OLD TESTAMENT AGAIN, and dig out a scripture out of context and use it for mind control, a battering ram and club to make people do your will is another story altogether.

I honestly don't know how that works, do you?

We are to obey, if it does not go against God's will. And steve is also commanded to be humble and to SUBMIT to other believers AND MOST IMPORTANTLY he should submit to God's Word. Yes, he should submit to The Word of God. That was Saul's problem. And, it was Saul that God spoke those words to, not Isreal, the people.

Lynn said...

Ima,

you are right about the mysticism. I was referring to this one instance. But I do get what you are saying.

And I'm not a big rap guy in general anyways. I'd rather rock out to AC/DC than Tupac :p

But I can also tell when somethings a load of bull. And usually, I'll say as such.

BTW, I had the same experience this morning at a Car dealership that Mark Sharpe had. I went to a car dealership and had a salesman gather a sales manager and try to pressure me into buying a car. Kinda like how Gaines and Co. tried to intimidate MS.

concernedSBCer said...

Hi everyone! Just back from vacation....gotta hit the ground running!

I have a question. Churchmouse, lilly, and several others, have asked about getting together to worship. I am just curious.....why do you not want to explore that possibility?

Ima & OC,
My last post contained was an unfortunate and unintentional poor choice of words, so I have deleted it. I appreciate you both.

I was thoughtless, heartless. I publically repent and acknowlege that I behaved unChrist like. I sinned. Now I repent. Ive asked God's forgiveness and yours. I now have both. Thankyou. That means everything.
I have learned so much from you, please don't go away.

I humbly, very humbly, recieve your forgiveness. God bless you. Thankyou.

Repost: I have a question. Churchmouse, lilly, and several others, have asked about getting together to worship. I am just curious.....why do you not want to explore that possibility?

I mean, you have a great idea of how NOT to do things....wouldn't that be a good place to start?

Mary said...

Ima,

I'm catching up on today's posts and I'm very disturbed that you are leaving the blog.

Ima, I don't know you away from the blog, but I do believe that you are needed here -- perhaps far more than you know. You seem to have an insight into the very real truths behind so many of today's problems in the churches.

I pray that you will reconsider your decision and remain here as a good Berean. You are needed, IMHO.

Because He lives,
Mary

Rod,
Having shared my emotions and heart on this blog since the PW announcement,I understand your grief and passion tonight.

But usually you are not this upset. Was the worldly worship in your grandchidren's class a new lightbulb???
I support you and my heart is with you. I am just wondering.

A few of us moms, piggies and sheep (and maybe a buzzard) may have to make a road trip to Muscle shoals( Did I spell that right??) if you don't stay with us on our blog.......
I am going to wash OC's mouth out with soap!
Please reconsider!

New BBC Open Forum said...

Thank you, oc.

Ima, we have learned so much from you and appreciate you more than you'll ever know. It's been comforting to know that someone else has been where we are now. You have taught us to be on guard and to think, and I thank you for that! You've taught us so much about this pervasive movement that is taking over our churches, and we don't want you to go. We need your wisdom and insight. Please consider remaining with us and contributing as you've done for so long.

I promise if "oc" ever offends you again that I'll banish him to that "other blog"! That is, if we don't turn him over to that kid in Alabama who bagged Hogzilla.

We love you, "ima"! Please don't go!

All: There seems to be some doubt that I truly saw A CErtain person in Atlanta, at Six Flags, on Thursday. It's true! How weird is that?

The weather was so hot and humid and, alas and alack, there were no little umbrellas for our ICEE drinks.

I would love a road trip to Muscle Shoals to hear the Word. That was my home in the early 80's - 1505 Ford's Way - worked in the health department and covered 3 counties - including one day a week to Red Bay, Alabama. If you know where Red Bay is and have actually been there, then you know what back roads of Alabama really means. Anyway, what a great idea - that, and bowling.

Yeah, yeah -- and I saw Elvis in the BBC parking lot! Not sure if he was there for a special performance of all2jesus' "Are You Preaching Tonight?" or if he is the one who has been stealing everyone's hubcaps ...

P.S. Word Verification is "sieekup" ... sounds like good advice (even if misspelled).

To cause division, distrust, disunity, dissention, destruction, and to spread hate and lies, of course. Or maybe I'm getting myself confused with someone else...

imaresistor said...

Thank you NBBCOF,

OC…my post to you has been removed per your request.

It is my request that all forgive OC for his remarks to me tonight…I surely have. He emailed me twice asking for forgiveness. He has followed Christ’s commands in repentance/forgiveness. We should all learn a lesson from him in this through how he has humbled himself tonight before God. This is as it should be and a lesson has been allowed for us all to reap the benefits from. Let our lights so shine…

Above all, we must remember to show ourselves approved by God. There are those who are watching us who have not been saved. We have a marvelous opportunity to do the work of the Lord through this blog. Let us do that…

I pray that all will continue to educate themselves about the movements being brought into the churches today. We must stand for Jesus Christ at all costs. That is what this is all about…if we don’t know what to look for, we will miss it. We will fall for it.

If there are any who don’t know Jesus, my prayer is that you will humble yourself and see somebody who can help you in your quest to know Him. Soon.

I think it would be great if Why could state an original thought based on scripture in a mature way and we could discuss it. That would be so much more pleasing to our Heavenly Father than an accusitory rant.

Hmmm....Doesn't sound like WHY has been to Mr. Coombs office demanding that we have access to the financials....I'm SO disappointed.

What is in those books, WHY? And what part of this are YOU responsible for? What is it YOU do not want us to find out -or find proof of that we may already know.....

You showing up here asking us to leave reminds me of a burglar ranting because the door is locked....

concernedSBCer said...

Ima: What a blessing you are. Your words and your heart are both priceless. :)

gmommy said...

Why... you can't think,

I have never been a pastor with a PHD that blew off the confession of a sexual deviant minister and then
LIED to the congregation by saying this was unchartered terriotory. That is FAKE and that is a LIE.

Your false teacher teacher was in the SBC in 2002 when they passed the sexual purity for ministers policy.
Since he uses elementary sermon outlines instead of preparing his sermons, SURELY he has caught Oprah a few times while not at the Country club.

In 2007,BESIDES the SCRIPTURE...duh....sexual abuse....NOT INCIDENT....is NOT uncharted territory.
If you want to continue this LIE and Fake act....that is your problem, buddy.

Slander.....how shall we address this accusation from someone who calls everything we say a lie when it's the truth? I don't think we dignify that with a response...

Go ahead and carry on with the all-caps temper tantrum.....

Remember how the deacons were able to look thru the receipts of ONE credit card???

How deceitful can the leadership be???
And isn't it interesting that SG has a habit of using church money for personal use then when
CAUGHT,
he pays it back and all is better. All forgiven.
SG has set disfunction back 10 years.

There used to be classes at BBC that taught about people like him....
now the pastor teaches what lies and distortion are by EXAMPLE.

ok. Since 'Why' is taking a time out to lick his wounds, I will use this time to let everyone in the world know that I am still in repentance because of what I have done to a wonderful Christian person tonight. I acted like the world, with no compassion or understanding. Jesus is not happy with me tonight. And neither are my brothers and sisters in Christ. I don't blame them at all. I am not liking me very well right now either.

But I rejoice in this. The precious lady that I offended has forgiven me. The Lord has too. And I hope and pray that my brothers and sisters will do the same. I love them, and they probably have forgiven me before I even asked, because we're famlily and they love me too. Where else other than the Kingdom of Christ can you find love like this?

Look world, this is real love. You thought you knew what it was. You were always wrong. Real love is not what you can offer, or what anyone can offer you. It is all about how you respond to sacrifice, the One who offers His life for you.

Imaresistor.
I am so sorry. I have been a disgrace to many today. Thankyou for your grace, and your sweet forgiveness.

in great humility towards you,

oc.

It is sad that numbers are not accurately being presented. It is sad that many are saying we should be open to a so called anything goes new generation philosophy at church. It is sad to see funds misused at BBC. It is sad to see families divided over BBC. We never would have thought that lies would ever be spoken from behind the pulpit at BBC.

inmemphis: And what is also so sad is that there are people who don't see it. I had someone tell me just last week that God was "cleaning house." I commented back something to the effect that I didn't think that was necessarily the whole truth.

Is that scriptural? I keep trying to understand "cleaning house" from a Biblical point of view. Any ideas?

Maybe these? At least it's a start.

Matthew 21:12-13

Mark 11:15-17

Sorry, I read your statement the wrong way. You meant "cleaning house" of the discerning people. Can't find anything about plucking up, destroying, planting, etc., not in that context.

This was from my SS lesson today:

He, that being often reproved hardenth his neck, shall be suddenly destroyed, and that without remedy.
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

Hey kiddies, what’s with the “so old” business from last night? Donny Osmond and David Cassidy??? Gimme a break…

I was doing homework and listening to the radio when the first Elvis record was ever played anywhere in the world. The song was “That’s All Right, Mama,” the station was Memphis’ own WHBQ, the deejay was Dewey Phillips, and his program was called “Red, Hot and Blue.” I’ve been in love with that good looking boy ever since, but that’s way too much info. Anywho, Elvis has left the building and so has any concern I have about age – it’s only a number. :)

Hope everyone enjoys the many blessings of the Lord today. Family is coming over and we’re spending the afternoon in the pool and by the grill. :)

Looks as though there is a re-incarnation(s) of some of the illustrious detractors of the past on the blog. Seeing that the Bible is quite clear that "the heart is deceitful above all else and desperately wicked..who can know it?, Mr. "why", you would do well to take note that you cannot discern your own motives, whether they are of the flesh or of God, much less anyone else's.

WHY said: “Bellevue has a bad reputation in town for ARROGANCE etc, That is a fact and documented wirth studies.”

REPLY:

Please produce one actual study, just one, by name, date, and the authority under which it was conducted.

As for proper dress – would you interview for a job while wearing shorts and sandals? If not, then why would you go to worship in the house of the Lord dressed that way? If you would, then you must enjoy working in the paper-hat-required industry, because your chances of being hired for a corporate position are slim and none.

How you dress is a direct reflection of the respect you have for the event you will be attending, and it is a direct reflection of the kind of respect you have for yourself.

Now, I’m off.

Mary,
What a great job of explaining attire. I've always been of the opinion we should wear our BEST. If your best is a white t-shirt and jeans, wash them, iron them, and go worship. But if you wear better clothes out on Friday night than you do to worship God on Sunday, there's a problem. IMHO

concernedSBCer said...

Why: You have posted just enough truth mixed in with your rant that does show you have been deceived or are very immature, one or the other.

I already addressed attire (no pun intended) in a previous post.

BBC has always done a fairly good job of reaching out. Impact ministries, for example, has for many years worked tirelessly in underpreviledged areas. That did not begin with SG.

With regard to the misuse of funds, that has been documented over and over. And I agree with Piglet: you go in and ask for a copy of the financials to prove your point. I believe you will be sorely disappointed.

I solved this problem by getting rid of everything but my blue jeans and t-shirts ... so now I get to go to church comfortable and it is the best I've got.

Lynn said...

I have a rule of thumb for how I dress for church.

If I can't wear it to work, then I have no business wearing it to church.

And Mary,I have personally seen instances up at Bellevue where if your not in the in crowd, no one wants to have anything to do with you. And thats my personal experience BTW.

Lynn's Response:

Rod, Have you been to the Career area of Bellevue lately? When I'm in that area I'm not sure if I'm at church or Starbucks! And if I'm not mistaken, the fog machines and stuff has also been used for I2 in the past as well (They didn't use it this past go around, but who knows about next time).

Good Afternoon fellow discerners in the faith,

We didn’t get out this morning…. For those who know who ‘we’ are…. No major problems or set backs…. Just, let’s be encouraged in the Lord here at home today.

Dr. Rogers one hour at 11 AM and then my friend Dr. J. Vernon McGee from noon till 12:45 PM… My, my, my I had to get out the “steak” knives. Thank you Jesus for feeding us.

Now on with some nonsense…. Just ‘cause.

Clothes should not determine who is accepted.

But someone who assulted a man outside a restaurant is accepted. In leadership.

A pedophile is accepted, with no conditions, putting others at risk.

A trespassor is accepted as a leader.

A liar is in control of a church.

Jesus forgives, but there are still consequences for sin. Either now or later.

klavierliebfrau said...

Dress in church:
The moment you enter the doors of any chuch you are in God's house and should afford Him the respect of being at your best in both demeanor and dress. As someone else so aptly stated; if your best is blue jeans and a white tee shirt then wear them clean and pressed. If your best is a mink coat; wear it with the humility that you know that He has made your earthly prosperity possible.

As to the dress of the choir or orchestra: a number of years ago when I was in the orchestra some of the young people whined because they were made to wear robes at the evening service after several years of not being required to do so. I loudly commented that if some people would not show up looking like street urchins we wouldn't have to wear the robes. Of course you could still see their feet. I looked over at the drummer once at a Passion Play performance and he was barefoot.
(fortunately corrected by the conductor before showtime). On another occasion when I was performing in the MPP I could see down in the orchestra pit at a dress rehearsal and one of the flute player's long skirt slit came up just below her panty line. Eventually because the leadership would not ask anyone to conform to some level of modesty, the orchestra women were required to buy a special outfit to wear at formal performances. Ask the members that couldn't afford to buy the outfits how they felt. Fortunately other, more affluent (and might I say GENEROUS) orhchesta and choir members helped them with the cost. All this so that those "rugged individualists" could "do their own thing". The robes promote uniformity to avoid shows of pride in dress (or in the case of some, lack of dress). Now if we could just shave everyone's head all would be perfect (just kidding!!!).

I don't think it is being arrogant to ask that people assemble in a church in a decent manner for a church service. There are countless other events at BBC where dressing down a bit is ok.

Rant concluded...

concernedSBCer said...

Why: Don't worry about me: I will bow before my Savior in shame and repentence but that is one thing I will not have to answer for.

klavierliebfrau said...

My clock shows 7:08PM. Therefore if Why and his are so deeply involved at BBC he should be in the service right now. Either he's not there or has access to a BBC computer. The latter is abuse of the church's resources if he is a paid employee or a breach of IT security if he is not. If he is at work somewhere else, the same applies. Also quoting the full lyrics to a song (unless it's your own? or permission is granted by the author) is an illegal act according to current U.S. Copyright law. It is theft.
Hello, pot; kettle calling.

gmommy's response

I didn't hear Elvis sing his first time on the radio
but in elementary and Jr High,( HS is a blurr)
I watched all his movies on TV and danced to all his songs (behind my do not dance parents back).
SO in the day of Elvis and before the "grunge" and rap non singers
WE HAD STANDARDS!!!
I grew up in a poor family BUT even the poor and uneducated(for the most part)
understood respect and standards of properness.

The bar was high and you HAD to work hard, have manners, and be neat and clean if you wanted to work at ANY job around people.

I just got home from working so I didn't read why's comments but there is a big difference in arrogance and dignity.
There have been and will always be the clicks and the in people. Some people will always dress better because they can.
Many people don't have a budget for frills. I sure don't.
WHY is bringing up such SHALLOW stuff because that is how Gaines has slanted it. He is not a man of dignity. He is not cut from the same cloth as the AR's and Billy Graham.
BBC is being dummied down to the culture's standards because of who is in the pulpit.

WHAT IS GOING TO BE sad...is when WE have all been replaced by the culturally exceptable dummied down group.

gmommy said...

OK....did I miss WHY saying something about the songs we were singing last night?????

Didn't make it anywhere. I worked over 8 hours outside (about 10 bags of dirt with a wheel barrow that doesn't roll...I drag it!) and could barely move.
I moved slow (listened on the internet)until I had to go work. BLT said it would be a short service.

Folks,

I would like to add the following comment to the "dress" topic.

It just thrills my soul when I see an over the road trucker or someone who apparently has just come from work enter our building "as he/she is" to join with others in reverence to and praise of our Lord Jesus.

When appropriate this is the person I desire to reassure that they are indeed welcome without judgment or reservation.

Yet I stand squarely against sloppiness in dress when that dress unmistakenly displays disrespect /rebellion.

May you be blessed!
