  4. absolutely amazing!!! BBC doesn't feel that it should render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and all the previous poster can do is to deflect to Jim Haywood?

This is not about Jim Haywood. It is about BBC not abiding by law. A few minutes ago on the prevous blog, SG supporters were all over us about following the law..and not recording..and now...all you can do is blame it on Jim Haywood?

    LOLOL!! that's funny

  8. I have waiting so long for this.

There just never seemed to be any HOPE that there would be a way for the "little guy" to have a say and make a difference in all of our troubles at Bellevue Baptist Church.

Is this group a bunch of broken hearted, Jesus loving, people loving, and pastor loving folks?

    Where do I sign up?

OR are they sour faced, gun powder eating, bitter, angry folks who "say" all of the above but are wickedly deceived?

I want no part of this.

Which is it and how can I be assured?

With Christ all things are possible…. Even for the “little guy or gal”.

i believe if you read the press release, you will see where it IS against tenn. law not to release the names of the members.

This is bigger than you are, Ace. IDC is not going away.

It's comments like these that make me get down on my knees and pray for our church. If destructive attitudes like these continue, God will receive no glory. Maybe my newest blog post (On Spiritual Warfare) may help you out.

But the people recording are not doing it for personal use, they are doing it for other obious (and selfish) reasons...therefore it's illegal.

Apparently it is now selfish of us to want to record what our leaders say so they are held accountable for their words.

    That's HOG wash. :0'

  23. As printed in bellevuetoday;

As a courtesy to nearby worshippers, please REFRAIN from still photography, or making video and audio recordings of the worship service. Thank you.

The request of the church mentions no violation of law or copywright, only that courtesy be extended to other worshippers. There are no laws being broken otherwise why would we have not had several thousand people arrested over the years.

Give me a break! It further damages the credibility of those that support this administration to propogate such foolishness.

cI do not want the church to release my name and address to any other church member that asks for it. There's 30,000 of us. Perhaps Mr. Haywood and those wanting the membership list, just want to use it for a mailing list but somewhere in that group of 30,000 might be someone who might similarly ask for such a list so they can come to my home and rob me or worse. If they have to give it to Mr. Haywood, how can they refuse to give it to any other member. If this group succeeds in forcing the church to give them a membership list, please let us know asap so I can contact the church and tell them I don't want them giving my name, address, phone number, etc. to anyone - member or not. As a matter of fact, I'll just go ahead and contact the church on Monday and advise them of that very thing.

    Piglet says:

You are ALREADY being robbed -- of the truth by the people you trust.

They are breaking the law by not releasing this list.

Strangers all over the country have you on their mailing list and you're afraid of the church members? Methinks you protest too much.

    You must be in leadership.

Wow, what a lovely commentary on the Body of Christ.

Uh, what you describe could happen in a 100 member church. But from what you say, I think you should have your name taken off the membership rolls to be certain. I have heard there used to be an unsavory person on staff!

    Ace,

I am involved with Integrity Does Count - The group asked Jim if we could put the press release on his site since savingbellevue.com gets a lot of hits. Don't confuse yourself - this group is serious and wishes to its very depths that it never had to be formed. Whatever attention it gets is just another symptom of the lack of transparency we're experiencing from the leadership at BBC.

Sorry for the offense GoG. It was just a figure of speech I often use. I was trying to indicate to Ace that I am pretty sure of my opinion and will agree to disagree on what the law says. Like I said, figure of speech and perhaps a poor choice in these circumstances. Things can look different in print then when said face to face. I am sorry you took it the wrong way. I have no plans to sue Ace and I expect he does not plan to sue me.

I don't dislike Ace and he thanked me for a post yesterday I made on his behalf. He is welcome. I think we would get along great and would propbably argue about everything and yet somehow remain friends.

Oh, stop it with the "Anti-Bellevue" stuff. I guess I'm "anti-choice" instead of pro-life too?

Your reaction to this indicates that you are part of this or are okay with it.

A great indicator that the push for integrity in our church has become VERY uncomfortable and THREATENING for the those who DO NOT want openness and integrity.

Guess we know where you stand.

    This only strengthens our resolve.

    You're not dealing with sissies.

  56. This is great news!!! I've longed for this day.

I encourage everyone to get out your checkbook. Let's flood the Integrity Does Count mailbox with checks. It's obvious they need money to make Bellevue comply with Tennessee law. They will need money to hold that pubic meeting too.

WOW, I can't believe David Coombs said, "I don't care about the law." If that's true it is unbelievable and stupid. Is this what we want from the Bellevue leadership?

If David Coombs is using the files of women who were 'counseled' at bbc in order to intimidate them, be very careful. This includes anyone else that you may have given that information to.

Depositions are wonderful things. They can get to the truth. That is, of course, if once you place your hand on the Bible and swear to tell the truth, it still means something to you.

1st Corinthians 2:6 ¶ Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

I am involved with Integrity Does Count - The group asked Jim if we could put the press release on his site since savingbellevue.com gets a lot of hits.

So are you saying that Jim is only involved by placing a link on his site? That's absolutely it? Be honest, now...

Reply: Nope, he's involved. He is the one with the established website. He knew that by posting the press release there, people would most assuredly see it. If I had an established website, I would have let IDC post the press release.

Jim Haywood did not request the membership list for the record. And I've seen an affidavit where David Coombs says he does not care about Tennessee law.

Ok, now that we're being honest, will you be honest with me? Are you Steven/Stephen Coombs (I don't know how you spell it, so I didn't want to get caught up in a speling contest)? "He believes and feels his own weakness and unworthiness and lives upon the grace and pardoning love of his Lord. This gives him an habitual tenderness and gentleness of spirit. Humble under a sense of much forgiveness to himself he finds it easy to forgive others"

"Though you set out in defense of the cause of God, if you are not continually looking to the Lord to keep you, it may become your own cause and awaken in you those tempers which are inconsistent with true peace of mind and will surely obstruct communion with God."

  155. Here are a few important changes that would help restore the trust of many members during these days of crisis in leadership--and I hope that the Lord will use IDC, inc. to help bring about such changes:

    I. Pastoral Accountability to the Congregation:
    1. A business meeting in accord with Matthew 18 to deal with the issues that remain related to Mark Sharpe and "the Dream"... and any other loose ends that should have been dealt with months ago!!
    2. The giving records of the membership and the ministers on staff at Bellevue should never be for pastoral review in any shape, form, or fashion.
    3. Due to concern for potential abuse, no church credit cards.
    4. An admission Dr. Gaines should have never given $25k to FUMC and an explanation of policy changes to prevent a repeat.
    5. A policy for open books on Holy land trips and no overcharging of members.
    6. Full disclosure of ministerial compensation: salary + benefit breakdown, etc.
    7. Immediate removal from office of ministers guilty of sexual immorality with immediate coordination with the appropriate authorities if any laws have been broken by a minister (no matter how long ago), including thorough investigation of the matter when the minister’s conduct may have affected other church members or their children.

    II. Congregational Church governance:
Some of the congregation has awakened to the reality that our church has a set of "lay-elders," a close knit group of men who manage to be appointed to key positions year after year. The rest of the congregation needs to be awakened.
    1. Those who are part of this lay-elder "power block" need to step down from positions of influence for a long time. Bellevue needs “new blood” in these key positions.
    2. There needs to be the signing of a public conflict of interest form for any member that has any business contract to provide services for the church. These people should not be allowed to serve on committees that review bids for their services.
    3. Congregational nomination of and election of all of the Board of Directors as called for in the 1929 bylaws.
    4. A quarterly business meeting with open mike Q&A with each committee chairman. **The current bylaws mention "monthly" business meetings! When were they changed??
    5. A good updated set of bylaws similar to GBC.
    6. A transparent committee selection process.
    7. Much greater congregational oversight of the current budget with a transparent policy for consideration of non-budgeted expenditures exceeding a reasonable amount.
    8. Thorough communication with the Congregation for ANY capital project well in advance of any vote. Building prayer buildings or any other type of building should be brought through proper channels to the congregation for prayerful consideration--not coerced "rubber stamping." [By the way, Dr. Rogers taught us quite a bit about prayer. As a matter of fact, I believe all of the current buildings ARE prayer buildings already. He and Dr. Whitmire also taught us quite a bit about worship also... but that's another topic].
    9. Bellevue needs to reject Warrenism fully and finally.
    10. Higher standards should be put in place for the hiring of "ministers." Seminary training should be considered a normal prerequisite.

III. Treatment of ministers on staff at BBC and members:
    1. A whistle blower policy for ministers, staff, and members.
    2. The end of heavy handed dealing with ministers, staff, and members; and the end of signing non-disclosure statements. All ministers who have been pressured or asked to sign such non-disclosure statements should be released from them in writing by BBC! Former staff should be allowed to address the congregation and/or the deacon body either in writing or in person without any fear of reprisal regarding their exit from BBC. The congregation needs to know how their leadership has treated and is treating ministers who leave the service of our Lord through BBC.
    3. Forgiveness for those in leadership who have allowed this to deteriorate to this point--AND consequences for their actions.

All in my opinion as usual.

We are to be “providing things honestly in the sight of all men” (Rom. 12:17). Revival, reform, congregational oversight... for there is level ground at Calvary and "he who would be great among you shall be the servant of all."

32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

response: That is true, to recieve a mailing list, the members requesting (IDC)must disclose all members to verify membership.

Not sure what the bylaws state about member removal, but they could be removed from the membership roles, then case closed.

There will probably be at the most 300 people associated with IDC. If they are not removed from membership list first, there could be a vote called, which IDC would lose greatly.

After that vote, it would be a guarantee the members of IDC would lose their membership.

seems to me it is a lose-lose situation.

I agree with you, the vote to reconfirm SG will probably happen. I would guess the vote will probably be 4,000-5000- for and 300-500 against.

then what? That small minority will look like a militant minority. You will probably see a group from the majority rise up to call for the disenters removal of membership. this could be good for the staff, because they werent the ones to bring it up. they could simply restate we are a congregational people and this is what the majority of the congregation wanted. It is very difficult to overthrow a baptist church in todays culture.

  197. True Healing?
Can there be true healing at Bellevue under the current leadership? Not too long ago I would have answered, yes. Now, after so many occurrences involving the lack of integrity I must answer, NO. There was a time when it involved a difference of opinions, it now consists of different beliefs and convictions. There is so much distrust from many members towards the leadership that there will never be true healing and reconciliation with the current leaders in place. The opinion of many parishioners is that they have been misled and deceived to the point where trust is no longer possible. These men (you know who you are) have been saying for months now "if you don't like it, just leave". It seems that many have but with the announcement today of an organization that obviously plans to stick around, one must ask if they feel a sence of loss. Those feelings should have been felt when BBC received the many requests from members moving to sister churches in the area, due primarily to a lack of integrity.
