I think these things at Bellevue may be happening in order to reveal the hearts of some that should NOT be in leadership, like Mr. Weatherwax!!!!

I have no doubt that Dr Gaines had a divine appointment with Bellevue, possibly to purify us. I am sure that the Lord is refining the gold and that the dross shall be poured off leaving us a shining beacon on the hill.
I agree with pinker socks, the dross is becoming self evident.

I believe Bro.Phil made a HUGE mistake. I believe he lost respect from a lot of the church body. I have spoke with others who, like me, can not believe he went that far. I am scared! Where is BBC headed? We need to be on our faces before GOD!

Uh... let me see... that Mr. Weatherwax made a donkey out of himself? Mind you, I'm not calling him a donkey, just observing that he made himself sound like one in those letters.

"Young Mr. Manning" showed much more maturity than this man who is over twice his age and in his responses was able to exercise much more restraint than I think I could have. Granted, he sounded a bit angry, but it was the hurt that came through more than anything. There's often a fine line between the two.

All I could think of as I read all that was, "Is this an example of the 'leadership' at Bellevue?" And then to sign it "Yours without apology"? Heaven help us all!

Ditto to all the above comments. That is exactly what has happened.

I do not approve of Dr Gaines or the way he has handled things. I have been a member of Bellevue for 20 years and I think it is digusting what he has done to the church.

    Friends,

I am growing increasingly weary of the multiple attacks against your new Pastor. He has apologised for the fence incident...how many times does he have to say I am sorry?

The expense to take several couples out to eat, is a part of serving a church of your size...and assuridly it was a budgeted amount ( according to your own finance person) No inpropriety none!

Why the desire to handcuff your new Pastor who has stepped into the posistion previously held for 32 years by Dr.Rogers?

Dr. Rogers was often away on Wednedays not always...and I must say that I do believe your new Pastor should be in attendance when he is not away, representing or encouraging another Church or seminary as a guest speaker.

I am confident that your new Pastor is not abusing predetermined time away granted to the Senior Pastor of Bellevue!

I have to say that the deacons who responded in a hateful manner should be ashamed....and why on earth would you want those mean spirited men in Leadership!

I don't believe they speak for Dr. Gaines, or the Church...and certainly would be quickly rebuked by Dr. Rogers if he were there!

However Folks, some of you ( Not All) are eating your Pastor alive! ....acting more like goats than sheep, critizing, defaming, belittling etc!

Dr. Rogers always spoke so very highly of the Saints of Bellevue,

I am very concerned that if this doesn't come to a quick resalution your church will be seen as anything but loving...and what Pastor would want to serve a people that refuse to let him be human.

I don't believe your Pastor should be making more than Dr. Rogers....but honestly after reading some of your criticisms a a million a year wouldn't be enough to have to put up with such disdain and disrespect!

Should your Pastor be held to a high standard...absolutely!

In the process show respect for the office of Pastor...he is not Gaines....

He is Dr. Steve Gaines, Senior Pastor of the Bellevue Baptist Church of Memphis!

Your former Pastor Dr. Rogers in his book "Standing for light and Truth" on page 44 wrote:

There are often two classes of people in the church: Those who complain and those who know how to pray. The people murmured against Moses, but Moses went to the Lord!

    Lets all do the same!
    Ephesians 4: 29-32

Mr. Phil I see common sense walked out the door of your house too.Why write the stuff you did.You have done some very good things while at Bellevue. WHY? You just added fuel to the fire that is burning our church from within.WHY?

I have been a member of Bellevue for 15 years and I cannot believe what is going on. I told my spouse that we would hang on as long as possible; if things don't get better we will leave.

I can't believe that Mr. Weatherwax would write such. This really hurts his testimony.

"Didn't I tick you guys off" seems to have hit home. Mr Phil seemed "ticked off" far beyond what you would think acceptable as a minister of God. It is shameful that a man of youth is wiser than a long time staff member of what used to be the greatest church in the world -

It is ours to forgive, and God's to judge.
"If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14,15) "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you." (Matthew 7:1,2)
It seems to me that Mr. Weatherwax realized the err of his ways (that the initial response was not a good one) and wrote so in his second email. Forgive.

Mr. Weatherwax just showed his true colors. I have even less respect for him than I had before, and that wasn't much. He has always been arrogant.
Anyone doubt why Gaines has been able to purchase 4 acres at $50,000 each and planning to build a million dollar home?

  2. Good point, ilovebbc. I'm curious also. Bbcmember, do you have a source for that?

  3. We live down the road from this area. A deacon who lives in the area also told us. Gaines property is clearly marked with his lot# and name. Interesting to note is this will be a gated community. Wonder if he will mind guests coming un-announced?

  4. bbcmember,

I had heard that, too, but I didn't want to repeat it without some confirmation it was fact. Guess there could have been a rich relative who left them a nice inheritance. Wish some of my relatives had been so generous.
