He...It is not God's will for us to feel exhausted. He loves us and wants us to live healthily.

The sabbath pre-dates the law. God must really want us to rest 24 hours once per week from our daily activities. We saw it mentioned in the Creation story. Here it is again in the second book of the Bible. It's also going to be in the third and fourth books of the Bible and in the New Testament. Probably lots of other books.

16:23He said to them, "This is what the LORD commanded: `Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.' "
24So they saved it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. 25"Eat it today," Moses said, "because today is a Sabbath to the LORD. You will not find any of it on the ground today. 26Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any."
27Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. 28Then the LORD said to Moses, "How long will youC refuse to keep my commands and my instructions? 29Bear in mind that the LORD has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where he is on the seventh day; no one is to go out." 30So the people rested on the seventh day.

(offline)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36564514.post-1169520512950716892007-01-22T20:48:00.000-06:002007-01-22T20:48:00.000-06:00Are there consequences in the Bible for sin? Othe...Are there consequences in the Bible for sin? Others have listed specific sins by specific people in the Bible: David, Moses, etc. We have those particular incidents to look at.

I ask: what should the role be between the govt's laws and church's rules and media? How should these groups be organized internally? Who decides what consequens should be for particular sins? Who does the punishing? Priests? Judges? Public opinion? What does the Bible say? This also begins to outline the pro-pew/pro-pulpit debate.

In exodus, we are starting to see some verses that pertain to this. We see God sending Moses to talk to "the elders of Israel" (3:18). We see Aaron used as a "Press secretary" (4:14-16). When Israel leaves Egypt they are not a mob running out into the dessert, but are organized into groups (12:41). Moses, using a "outside consultant (his father-in-law)" creates a beauracracy similar to what we find in mega churches, the federal gov't, and big business. This partuclar beauracracy is a judicial branch (18:25-26). We see that all of these things are written down, and thus the idea of a written plan of government such as the Magna Carta or U.S. Constitution. The first official piece of the Bible is commanded by God to be written onto a scroll (17:14-16).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36564514.post-1169518749296643822007-01-22T20:19:00.000-06:002007-01-22T20:19:00.000-06:00"Also, I do not know anyone, even those staunchly ..."Also, I do not know anyone, even those staunchly opposed to Steve Gaines as pastor, who want to see him arrested or indicted.
